Paul Ocone is an anthropologist and an independent scholar of anime. He recently completed a Fulbright scholarship in Japan, where he spent ten months researching doujinshi events and anime pilgrimage. He has published papers in the journals Mechademia and Transformative Works and Cultures, and he has given many presentations at both academic conferences and fan conventions.
